DOJ Orders NBI to Find Government Officials Behind Quarantine Escapes

The Department of Justice (DOJ) has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to find government officials involved in a series of quarantine escapes.

Menardo Guevarra, the Secretary of the Department of Justice, has directed the National Bureau of Investigation to investigate if government officials are conspiring with private persons to avoid the necessary quarantine process for foreigners. Guevarra activated the NBI in response to requests from the Department of Justice to examine incidents of foreign passengers violating the quarantine procedure.

The most recent incident included a Filipina returnee from the Berjaya Makati Hotel who later tested positive for COVID and infected individuals she came into contact with. Individuals from other nations must first travel to the government quarantine facility, according to a rule issued by the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

Secretary of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Eduardo Ao is also looking into the case of another lady who returned to the Philippines and broke the obligatory quarantine procedure. The woman came on December 22nd, according to Ao, and was meant to be quarantined at Seda Residences in Makati City.

The latter, on the other hand, went directly to her apartment and got a massage. He further said that when the woman arrived at the hotel, she was met by a car and driven to her BGC property.

He said the woman boasted on social media about being isolated for only one day. The secretary also criticized the Seda for submitting a no-show report to BOQ and the Department of Tourism (DOT), claiming that they were not in accordance with the instructions.
