Makati will not declare Gwyneth Chua “persona non grata”
Mayor Abby Binay of Makati said that the city will not declare Gwyneth Chua, also known as Poblacion Girl, a persona non grata.
The online community has been fuming over Gwyneth, an apparent returnee from the U.S. who skipped quarantine and went to a party that led to the infections of other party attendees.
Because of this, Gwyneth and her parents are facing charges for violating the R.A. 11332 that imposes the mandatory quarantine. She was supposed to stay at Berjaya Makati but she left before the required quarantine period was finished.
In line with this, Makati Mayor Binay, based on the report from ABS-CBN News, said that the city is preparing to file a complaint against Gwyneth Chua. She also said that the Department of Tourism is also is set to come up with a recommendation when it comes to the complaint against the hotel.
“We’re already preparing our complaint. We have several options, we can suspend their permit, the DOT will come up with their recommendation as well. It’s an ongoing investigation with Berjaya,” the mayor said
However, she will not be declared persona non grata by the city. “The level of persona non grata should be reserved for someone who really deserves it. She’s young, she’s callous, but she will have to suffer the consequences,” the mayor said. She also cited that the bars along Poblacion just opened after the city was placed under Alert Level 2 and it was just recently.
Binay also said that the greatly affected business area opened just recently and now it is suffering from another problem again because of Gwyneth.
For several days now, the name of Gwyneth Chua or Poblacion GirL, as what many netizens tagged her, has been a trending topic on social media.
