FDA Chief Eric Domingo Confirms Resignation from Post
FDA CHIEF ERIC DOMINGO – Food and Drugs Administration Director-General Eric Domingo confirmed his resignation from his post.
In the Philippines, the agency that is in-charge in checking and giving permits on the usage or circulation of certain food products and medicines is the Food and Drugs Administration. More commonly called as FDA, a huge responsibility is on the shoulders of the agency as their moves are linked to the safety of the populace.
The FDA is headed by director-general Eric Domingo. In May 2019, he was the public agency’s officer-in-charge and became its director-general in May 2020.
Under the term of FDA Chief Eric Domingo, nine (9) COVID-19 vaccines were given emergency use authorization. Furthermore, two (2) drugs in the treatment of coronavirus obtained authorization for usage.
Millions of people received their COVID-19 jabs and the vaccination is ongoing. Recently, two (2) mass vaccinations that jabbed more than ten (10) million people were conducted.
Recently, an update about FDA Chief Eric Domingo crossed the surface. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, citing that the agency is in a better state now, Domingo announced that he is resigning from being its director-general.
The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) is a regulatory agency under the Department of Health (DOH). According to the report, the Health Department expressed that FDA deputy director general Oscar Gutierrez will serve as the officer-in-charge of the agency following Domingo’s resignation from the post.
FDA is one of the active components in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Currently, the national government continues to encourage people to be vaccinated against the virus. The giving of booster shots using the FDA-authorized COVID-19 vaccines has also started in some groups such as healthcare workers.
