Having your own opinion on things is great. It provides you with critical thinking skills and develops your analytical reasoning.

When we compare ideas, the best way to do this is by using what’s called a Benn Diagram. Through a Venn Diagram, we can write down our ideas on one circle, and the author’s ideas on another.

And, if any of those ideas inter-lap, that’s the ideas both you and the author agree upon. As such, we can see the contrasting ideas between you and the author.

Here is an example:

In the example above, let’s say that the author represents the circle on the right and your’s is represented on the left.

For the author, he likes lemons. However, you like bananas. So, you list down both attributes (comparing) the banana and the lemon. And the attributes that are within the middle are the ideas that you would agree upon.
