LPA Off Pacific Ocean Changes Direction, Now Expected To Hit PH After Christmas
LPA CHANGES DIRECTION – A low-pressure area that was expected to hit the Philippines on Christmas day changed direction.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) initially forecasted the LPA to hit areas of Visayas and Mindanao on December 25, a few days after typhoon Odette made landfall.
According to PAGASA, the LPA was last seen 1,350 kilometers east of Mindanao Wednesday Morning. Initially, the LPA was predicted to penetrate the Philippines’ Area of Responsibility (PAR) either Wednesday or Thursday morning.
Currently, areas in Palawan, and other parts of Eastern Visayas and Mindanao are still recovering from the damages brought by Typhoon Odette, the strongest typhoon to hit the Philippines in 2021.
Meanwhile, data from PAGASA suggests that the new LPA has a 60-70 percent chance of developing into a tropical cyclone. As of now, it is projected to enter the Philippines on December 26 or 27.
Furthermore, this LPA would be nearest to Mindanao on December 29 or early December 30.
