Duterte Says Public Should Keep Face Shields If You Don’t Want To Contract COVID

KEEP FACE SHIELDS – President Rodrigo Duterte says that we should keep our face shields if we don’t want to catch COVID-19.

Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Philippines had one of the strictest lockdowns in the world. Following this, an era of plastic rose in the form of mandatory face shields.

However, the Philippines was among the only country that had that mandate. This, despite recommendations from health experts regarding its effectiveness.

But, 2 years after the pandemic hit the Philippines, Duterte made the decision not to require face shields in public spaces. Furthermore, he acknowledged how other nations criticized the Philippines for requiring face shields.

Still, the President emphasized that:

Nakakatulong sa Pilipino sa totoo lang. I think the compliance of our citizens in the matter of strictly enforcing the masks. And when somebody . . . While it might be not really a well-studied proposition but I would dare say that shield will add another layer of protection

Afterward, Duterte added that if we really want to avoid contracting COVID-19, we shouldn’t throw away our face shields. “I advise you because I really firmly believe that the wearing of that face shield has contributed a lot“, he said.

Currently, the Philippines has reported its lowest daily cases of COVID-19 since it peaked in September. Yesterday, the average number of cases in the country was 378 in a day from 18,579 last September.

After the Philippines implemented the new alert level system, Duterte approved face shields to be voluntary in areas under Alert levels 1 to 3.
