Alert Level 2 To Stay Until End Of 2021 – IATF

IATF Announces Alert Level 2 In Philippines To Stay Until December 31, 2021

ALERT LEVEL 2 – According to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF), the Philippines will remain under Alert Level 2 until the end of the year.

As the Philippines struggles with the spread of COVID-19, authorities placed the country under a new alert level system. Since its implementation, the country has had a steady decline in COVID-19 cases.

Because of this, IATF said that the country would remain under Alert Level 2 until December of 2021. Meanwhile, the Department of Health (DOH), said that some areas might lower to alert level 1 in 2022.

Previously, the DOH said that alert level 1 would be possible if key areas continue to stay “low risk”. According to a previous statement from DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said regions must also have at least 70% vaccination coverage.

Medyo hinahabol lang nila ngayon ‘yung individuals with comorbidities na ‘di pa nila naa-achieve na 70 percent“, she added.

Despite the looming threat of the new Omicron variant, the Philippines shall remain under alert level 2. However, several countries were already included in the Philippines’ travel ban list.

Recently, over 200 passengers from South Africa arrived in the Philippines. Luckily, all passengers who landed in the country between November 15-29, all tested negative for the new variant. But, one of the passengers was tested positive for the Delta Variant, a more transmissive version of the coronavirus.

Currently, the Philippines has reported over 2.84 million COVID-19 cases. And, of that number, 50,000, unfortunately, lost the battle to COVID-19.

But, the number of fully vaccinated individuals in the Philippines grows to 41 million, many hope that the country would achieve herd immunity.
