Tio Moreno Chides “Forgotten” Mariel and Rabiya Over Political Stance

Tio Moreno Slams Mariel de Leon and Rabiya Mateo Due to Their Political Stance

Lawyer Tio Moreno took social media to chide beauty queens Mariel de Leon and Rabiya Mateo lose due to their political stance.

On Facebook, Moreno chastised Mariel de Leon, Miss International Philippines 2017, and Rabiya Mateo, Miss Universe Philippines 2020, for their political stances while competing for the title. Moreno compared De Leon and Mateo to Pia Wurtzbach, Miss Universe 2015, and Catriona Gray, Miss Universe 2018, who unified the Filipinos.

Pia and Catriona, according to Moreno, win the beauty pageant because they avoid politics. De Leon and Mateo, on the other side, are accused of abusing their celebrity for political gain, ultimately losing out in the international competition.

“Pia Wurtzbach and Catriona Gray did not get involved in politics while competing for the Miss Universe title. They were successful in uniting Filipino supporters and winning the pageant,” said Moreno.

“Marielle de Leon and Rabiya Mateo were so enamored with their fame and platform that they interjected themselves into political issues and voiced their biased opinions. They were thrashed and were eliminated from the competition. Their names are now forgotten,” he added.

They should not believe false activists, self-proclaimed elites, or wokes, according to Moreno. “They can’t even win a political election, or even worse a beauty pageant,” Moreno added.

Both De Leon and Mateo dropped out of the competition early and did not make it to the finals. After a spat with Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte, De Leon became a polarizing figure.

The mayor of Davao even appears to be rejoicing in De Leon’s quick defeat. Sara previously stated that pageant judges analyze the heart in addition to outward attractiveness.

“I believe pageant judges see through the physical beauty and examine the heart. Para bang Ms. Venezuela sa Ms. Universe 2016. Parang ganyan. This is a schadenfreude moment for me. Sa binisaya pa, ang gabà di gyud magsabà,” said Inday Sara in her post.

Rabiya, on the other hand, appears to have been engaged in discussing politics, which some internet users found offensive. Miss Philippines Beatrice Luigi Gomez, who placed fifth, was commended by Moreno.
