This is the reason why MJ Lastimosa loves beauty pageants
Miss Universe Philippines 2014 MJ Lastimosa showcased the points why she can say that a beauty pageant is important.
MJ is one of the former Miss Philippines who are still active in the pageant scene even after their reigns. She has been very supportive of Pinay beauty queens competing for the international crown, just like what she recently did for Beatrice Luigi Gomez in the recently-concluded Miss Universe 2021.
As they say, the Philippines is a pageant-loving country, and Pinoy pageant fans are quite enthusiastic. MJ is aware of this passion that Pinoys have for pageants because she herself knows the importance of this.
Based on the article in GMA Entertainment, during a recent interview on the Shero PH podcast, MJ Lastimosa stressed that she saw how pageants can be an inspiration to many.
“I had to witness it myself to believe that pageants actually matter. Growing up back in the province where surviving is what we are working for – to just have food on the table and to just finish our studies…I had to really see it for myself to believe that there is actually a place for pageantry in my life,” she said.
The beauty queen from Davao said that when she won the local pageant, she realized that this could be a platform to start a change. MJ has found out new things about herself and she has realized what she wanted to do. Aside from this, this platform has given her a way to contribute to society and help other people.
“Pageantry is not just seeing beautiful faces and appreciating the beauty of women but it’s also hearing their voices and giving them the power to make a difference. It’s also pushing these women to actually be able to use their own power to make a difference,” MJ Lastimosa stressed.
When the question to her eight years ago was recalled, MJ said that her answer is the same. She still holds on to her statement that “perseverance” is the greatest contribution of Filipinos to the world.
