Death of Journalist in Samar Calls for Justice

JOURNALIST – Jesus Malabanan, a correspondent of Reuters, Manila Standard Today, Reuters, and Bandera was shot in Samar.

The media companies, newspapers, and news websites have correspondents in different areas in the Philippines. They are these individuals who do a part-time job reporting a certain event in a place where they are usually based.

One of the journalist correspondents is Jesus “Jess” Malabanan. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he was a former stringer of ABS-CBN News. He is also a correspondent of Manila Standard Today, Bandera, and Reuters.

However, recently, an unexpected incident took the life of Malabanan. He was shot in his own residence in Calbayog City, Samar.

According to the report, Malabanan was residing in Purok 12 in Barangay San Joaquin, Tinambacan District. It was around 6:30 p.m. when the unexpected incident took place.

The journalist correspondent of Reuters, Manila Standard Today, and Bandera was shot by two (2) still unidentified men in his house. According to the police, the victim was watching television inside his home when the suspects shot him from the outside.

The suspects were quick to escape from the incident. Malabanan was rushed to a hospital but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. The Pampanga Press Club, which the late journalist is a member of, is calling for justice over his death.

The Pampanga Press Club called on the Philippine National Police and other authorities to help in the probe for the arrest of the ones responsible over the death of Malabanan. The National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP) extended its condolences to the family of the victim.

Malabanan is one of the several journalists and members of media companies in the Philippines who met the same fate. In some of these cases, investigations are ongoing.
