Currently, the country is gearing up to prevent the spread of the new omicron COVID-19 variant. So far, in-bound travelers from outside the country tested negative for it. But, 8 of the new travelers from South Africa are still missing.

According to the DOH, the 8 travelers were unresponsive when contacted. Furthermore, they said that they put the wrong details in their info sheets.

During an interview with Teleradyo, DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said:

Ang naging challenge natin dito, mali-mali po ‘yung detalye du’n sa kanilang personal information sheets

(The challenge for us is that the details they placed in the personal information sheets were wrong).

Because of this, Vergeire called out the Bureau of Quarantine and the Department of Transportation. She stressed that these agencies are supposed to ensure details placed by foreigners are correct.

Now, Vergeire asked help from the travelers to coordinate with the DOH offices to find the missing individuals. “Para lang makuha natin ‘yung detalye niyo, ma-i-test po namin kayo agad, at magawa po natin kung ano po ang kailangan para ma-prevent po natin kung sakali ang pagkalat ng transmisyon nitong Omicron variant“, she stressed.

In a bid to prevent the spread of the new Omicron variant, authorities in the Philippines barred inbound flights from South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Eswatini, and other countries from November 28 to December 15.

Meanwhile, those that went missing came into the country between November 15 to November 29.
