Despite Being Closed To Public, Patrons Continue To Visit Manila Bay’s Dolomite Beach
DOLOMITE BEACH – Patrons of the controversial Manila Bay Dolomite Beach continue to visit despite it being closed to the public.
Currently, rehabilitation work is being done in the dolomite beach on Roxas Boulevard. However, this hasn’t stopped people from visiting the area hoping to get inside and take pictures.
According to officials, several people visited the baywalk. But, they’re not allowed to go inside the dolomite beach area. Furthermore, there are police officers stationed near the area to ensure operations inside go smoothly without public interference.
Previously, thousands upon thousands of people visited the dolomite beach. Because of this, many were concerned about a possible COVID-19 outbreak due to the mass of people crowding the beach area.
Additionally, environment undersecretary Benny Antiporda called on to those who visited the beach during the crowding to self-quarantine. Since then, the beach had been closed off to the public.
Now, as Manila lowered its COVID-19 alert level, authorities speculate that another flood of patrons would visit the beach. But for now, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said they’re focused on enforcing littering rules around the beach area.
Those caught littering would need to pay a fine of P500 or 8 hours of community service. Moreover, urinating and defecating in a public area is also tagged as illegal and has an accompanying fine for whoever is caught.
