Face Shield Use “Optional” In MRT, LRT

MRT, LRT Commuters Get Optional Choice For Face Shield Use

FACE SHIELD OPTIONAL – Recently, President Rodrigo Duterte said face shields are no longer mandatory.

Since the start of the pandemic, face shields have become a dreaded requirement for public spaces. As such, the Philippines became one of the only countries to have a face shield protocol.

Despite recommendations from health professionals and virologists, face shields continued to be a requirement throughout the year. Due to this, netizens have called the face shield a “valid ID” used to enter establishments.

Meanwhile, when it comes to transport, some public utility vehicles have a no face mask, no face shield, no ride policy. Among these are the LRT and MRT.

But, after Duterte’s announcements, face shield use is now only “optional” for commuters of the MRT-3 and LRT. This comes after the decision to not make it mandatory in areas under Alert Level 3.

Still, the MRT-3 said that face masks are still required and that eating and drinking inside the train is ill-advised. Additionally, safety precautions are urged as the MRT-3 is now up to 70% capacity.

Moreover, Philippine Medical Association president Dr. Benito Atienza urged residents to wear face shields for additional protection against COVID-19.
