3 Schools Were Suspended For Face-To-Face Lectures After Teachers Test Positive
FACE-TO-FACE CLASSES – 3 schools were suspended for in-person classes after teachers tested positive in a COVID-19 antigen test.
Pilot runs of face-to-face classes in the Philippines recently began in areas under alert level 2 or lower. However, in Zambales, the in-person classes started off on a rocky start as teachers tested positive.
As such, the school district said the following schools were suspended from conducting face-to-face classes:
- San Marcelino National High School
- Baliwet Elementary School
- Banawen Elementary School
Currently, antigen tests are among the requirements the Department of Education (DepEd) and the Department of Health (DOH) imposed for in-person lectures. Through this, officials aim to ensure the safety and security of both teachers and students.
According to an article from Philstar, DepEd stated:
The School Division superintendent gave assurance that classes would begin in these schools once teachers and another personnel test negative for COVID
Meanwhile, the Alliance of Concerned Teachers (ACT) said the issues found in Zambales show mandatory testing for teachers is paramount amid face-to-face learning plans. As per the article, ACT secretary-general Ramon Basilio said:
The antigen testing of those teachers, which yielded positive results, saved a lot of their co-workers and learners from possible exposure to the virus. A screening test can intelligently guide safe school reopening, and assuage the worries of teachers and learners
On the other hand, some areas already had successful pilot runs for the limited in-person classes. Among these schools was Langos Elementary School in Alaminos City, Pangasinan. During the pilot run, around 80 students from kindergarten to grade 3 joined the test run for face-to-face learning.
