DOH Announces Starting Date of Giving of COVID-19 Booster Shots for Health Workers

DOH – The Department of Health approved the giving of booster shots for the health workers who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Many countries are still in the midst of a tough fight against the COVID-19 pandemic and one of them is the Philippines. The whole nation remains under community quarantine measures. Meanwhile, restrictions have eased down in PH following a decline in the daily recorded cases of coronavirus.

The whole Metro Manila is currently under localized lockdowns now. Minors are now allowed in public areas like shopping malls. For more than a year since the pandemic started, minors and senior citizens were barred from going to public areas.

Currently, the vaccination against COVID-19 in the Philippines is rolling out. It has been opened to the public after the healthcare workers, the individuals with co-morbidities, and the senior citizens were given priorities.

Different brands of COVID-19 including Sinovac, Moderna, Janssen, AstraZeneca, Pfizer, and Sputnik V are administered in the Philippines. The healthcare workers who are the frontliners in the fight against the pandemic were given the liberty to choose the vaccine brand they want.

With regards to the COVID-19 booster shots, the Department of Health (DOH) nodded on its administration to the health workers. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the health department cited the recommendation of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) to get either Pfizer, Moderna, or Sinovac vaccine brand for the booster shots.

DOH announced that starting November 17, 2021, the fully vaccinated health workers may get the COVID-19 booster shots. For those who had Sinovac as their primary shots, the same brand of the vaccine will be given as the booster shot.

According to the health department, the National Vaccine Operations Center will be releasing guidelines regarding the third COVID-19 shots. Health Undersecretary Myrna Cabotaje assured that the vaccine supply in the country can accommodate the giving of booster shots and additional vaccines.
