2 of 40 Sabungeros Arrested Caught Trying to Bribe Cops to Be Released in Bulacan
Police arrested 40 “sabungeros” caught in an illegal cockfight event in San Miguel, Bulacan with two of them trying to bribe to avoid arrest.
The 40 people arrested were discovered in the act of an illegal cockfight in a barn, according to San Miguel police officials. Two of the 40 apprehended suspects allegedly tried to bribe police during the arrest, according to the police.

Beltran Estrella and Romeo Mercado of Barangay Sta. Ines Sibul were the 2 of 40 sabungeros apprehended in a series of anti-illegal gaming activities in San Miguel. The police undertook different operations against the unlawful cockfight in the municipalities of Obando, Pandi, and Plaridel, according to reports.
Estrella and Mercado, who were accused of violating PD 1602, will now face bribery allegations as well. According to the report, the two suspects approached the detaining officers and allegedly offered them P15,000 in exchange for their freedom.
Authorities seized 23 chickens, tari, and bet money during the raid. The police also raided the cockfighting area in Meycauayan City, Pandi, the next day. In the illegal cockfighting case, 17 more suspects were apprehended, and all of those detained are now in custody.
Meanwhile, police in Maco, Davao de Oro, arrested a 19-year-old student for failing to pay his online sabong. The young man gambled away his money and failed to pay the bet money.
