Robredo If Elected, Maintains Drug War Intensified but “In a Different Way”

Robredo Says She Will Maintain Drug War Intensified but “In a Different Way” if Elected

Vice President Leni Robredo says she will maintain the drug war intensified but in a different way if she got elected as president next year.

The presidential candidate vowed that the present administration’s fight on drugs would be increased during a press conference in Bicol. He did say, though, that because of the heavy enforcement, she will fight it in a different way.

“Ganoon katindi, pero sa ibang paraan. What we had was too heavy on the enforcement side,” she said.

In November 2019, Robredo co-chaired the Inter-Agency Committee Against Illegal Drugs (ICAD) for 19 days. However, despite her efforts and the fact that she had dedicated a significant amount of time to her new duty, she was sacked from her position.

Robredo, according to President Rodrigo Duterte, is unfit for a Cabinet position because she is chatty, scatterbrained, untrustworthy, and has a tendency to leak secret information to the damage of the country’s interests. Robredo then stated that if he does not want her in the position, he should terminate her immediately.

ICAD, according to Robredo, should be led by the Dangerous Drugs Board, a policy-making body, rather than the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA). Following her dismissal, Robredo issued a report claiming that, according to government statistics, law enforcement was only able to intercept 1% of all illegal drug shipments in the country.

“We cannot go on enforcement alone because the past five years, sobrang daming namatay. The question is, nawala ba ang droga? Hindi,” she said

“If DDB will chair ICAD, it won’t perform its role by going on kill, kill, kill. The plan will be comprehensive, heavy on prevention and rehabilitation,” she added.
