As 2022 comes closer, public clamour regarding politics continues to heat up, especially on social media. Because of this, you’d see people posting their views and opinions as to why they support certain politicians.

However, when it comes to teachers, DepEd said that lending support to any politician is highly prohibited. Recently, Education Chief Secretary Leonor Briones reminded teachers of this.

During an interview, a reporter asked Briones if teachers can share their political opinions on social media. However, Briones firmly said “No”.

She explained that teachers cannot express their views on politics as they are government employees. “Kung mag ano, they should not identify themselves as teachers for they are not expected to do that for bureaucratic naturality is a major principle“, she added.

Furthermore, she stressed that if teachers suddenly supported or went against a certain politician, the Philippines would be left in a chaotic mess.

Still, many teachers are expressing their views and opinions regarding politicians on social media platforms such as Facebook. Meanwhile, netizens believe that teachers hold the right to express their thoughts.

Others also state that teachers hold the responsibility to teach the truth regarding historical facts. Moreover, netizens also say that teachers should not shy away from combating false statements they see on social media.
