Will Netflix’s ‘Biggest Ever’ Series ‘Squid Game’ Get a Season 2?
SQUID GAME – The director of Netflix’s ‘Squid Game,’ Hwang Dong-hyuk, was asked if the series will have a second season.
Netflix’s K-drama ‘Squid Game’ is considered one of the most thrilling shows of the year. The tv series become the streaming platform’s most surprising viral hit.
The series tells a story of a group of people who join a survival game to win 45.6 billion won. Adult contestants have to play games based on traditional and global children’s games like ‘Red Light, Green Light’ and ‘Tug of War.’
The characters in the series are not forced to play for survival. They volunteered and gamble their lives on the chance of winning the huge price.
After its premiere on Sept. 17, the series rose to No. 1 on the streaming site’s Top 10. Until now, the show gets more and more buzz on all social media platforms.
In an interview with Good Morning America, ‘Squid Game’ director Hwang Dong-hyuk was asked about his thoughts on the success of the new Korean language drama. He said he thinks it is because the characters in the K-drama represent minorities.
“[The characters] may seem very specific to Korea, but I think they constitute the minority in any country in the world,” he said.
Hwang Dong-hyuk also shared his experience filming ‘Squid Game’ amid the pandemic. He said that the first game in the tv series was the most challenging scene for him.
Dong-hyuk said he also knows that the fans are asking for a second season. He admitted that the challenges that he experienced while filming it made him initially hesitant to do a follow-up. But the netizens have been giving him creative plot lines on social media.
“Some of them are really brilliant. Maybe I’ll go through all the YouTube again if I have to write the season 2 then I’ll steal the ideas from the fans,” he joked.
