Cebu Government to Check Vax-Cards of Bar Customers Amid the Reopening

Cebu Local Government Requires Bar Customers to Present Vax-Cards When Going

The local government of Cebu City has order policemen to check the vax-cards (vaccination cards) of bar customers amid the reopening of businesses.

Recently, the city administration has approved the reopening of resto-bars to provide liquor to locals who want to relax and have a beer bond. However, as part of their monitoring, Cebu City cops would check those bar patrons’ immunization cards.

The Cebu City Police Office’s (CCPO) deputy director for operations, Police Lieutenant Colonel Wilbert Parilla, stressed that serving liquor should only be authorized to individuals who are fully vaccinated. The Emergency Operations Office (EOC) established this as one of the requirements before granting special operating permissions to owners.

As a result, police will now examine customers during their nocturnal surveillance to see if businesses obey the rules they set. If one is caught, they will file a report and transfer it to the city’s EOC.

According to Parilla, 189 establishments had already been granted special permissions as of today, October 11, while 240 were on the waiting list. In Cebu City, at least 429 resto-bars sought a special permit. Parilla stated they had not found any infractions during their three nights of monitoring since October 8, when certain establishments were allowed to open.

He added that monitoring will continue to guarantee that health regulations were followed appropriately, particularly since Cebu City has only reported 22 new COVID-19 cases as of October 10, 2021. According to data from the Department of Health in Central Visayas, Cebu City had 945 total active cases as of October 10.
