Rabiya Mateo Demands Public Apology From Iloilo-based Media Company

Rabiya Mateo’s Camp Set a September 30 Deadline for Media Outfit To Issue a Public Apology

RABIYA MATEO – Ilongga beauty queen Rabiya Mateo is asking for a public apology from an Iloilo-based media company.

Following a previous article, Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo confessed that she once went out with a man who was 7 years her senior. The Ilongga beauty made this revelation during her guesting on the comedy program “The Boobay and Tekla Show” on September 19, 2021.

As seen on YouLOL’s Youtube channel, she was asked if she had gone out with someone who was a bit older than her. She said, “Three years ‘yung [age gap namin ng] ex ko pero nakipag-date din ako sa seven years yung gap namin.”

Growing up with only her mom Christine Mateo by her side, Rabiya Mateo considered that maybe she sought after a father figure when she dated men a few years older than her. She was also asked if she’s willing to date a man as old as 50.

The beauty queen joked that she would still have to learn how to be a caregiver. At the end of the day, she said “As long [as] kayong dalawa nasa legal age naman and if it’s love, wala tayong magagawa… Love has no gender, it has no age.”

Iloilo-based news outlet Panay News posted Rabiya Mateo’s statement on its Facebook page. But Rabiya has taken offense to the infographic and demanded a public apology from the media outfit.

The camp of the 24-year-old beauty queen called out Panay News for its alleged “malicious” and “libelous” use of Rabiya’s interview in the comedy show. Her legal counsel Ralph Calinisan told ABS-CBN news that they could not understand why the news outlet implied that Rabiya is looking for a sugar daddy.

“It need not be said that the mood during the whole program was light, comical, and funny. Thus, the quote that was used in the infographic of Panay News was clearly taken out of context. It is malicious. It is libelous,” Calinisan said.

Rabiya Mateo and her counsel gave the news site until September 30 to issue an apology. The apology must be published on all of its media platforms including print.
