CBCP Reports Nine Nuns From A Quezon City Convent Lose Fight Versus COVID-19

QUEZON CITY – Loved ones are left grieving after nine nuns from the Religious of the Virgin Mary (RVM) lose the fight against COVID-19.

According to the Catholic Bishop’s Conference of the Philippines (CBCP), all the nuns were from the St. Joseph Home. Furthermore, they disclosed that the nuns were aged between 70 and 98 years old.

Meanwhile, the first COVID-19 related death reported in the convent was on September 13. On the other hand, the latest reported death was on September 21.

After 62 nuns and 52 lay personnel tested positive for the virus, the convent was placed under lockdown on September 15. Thankfully, the 62 nuns had all recovered.

Additionally, 38 cited mild-moderate symptoms. Unfortunately, 13 had severe symptoms of the virus. Based on an article from Inquirer, 50 out of 52 lay personnel were underway to a full recovery.

Amid the new lockdown scheme in Metro Manila, several new restrictions were implemented. Areas under alert level 4 are only allowed to service 30% of their total capacity.

Meanwhile, indoor activities such as dining indoors only allow 10% of the customers. Moreover, only those with vaccine cards are allowed. Likewise, churches can only accommodate 10% of their total capacity.
