Taxi Driver Earned Praise from Medical Frontliners for Offering Free Ride

Several medical frontliners express gratitude to a kind taxi driver who offers a free ride to so-called “pandemic modern heroes.”

A heartwarming story about an unknown taxi driver who appreciates medical frontliners is shared by several proud medical frontliners. According to nurse Johnasse Sebastian Naval, he and his girlfriend rode in a cab driven by Kuya Ariel.

Frontliners Free Taxi Ride

While riding in Kuya Ariel’s taxi, Johnasse shows a video. In his film, Johnasse captured Kuya Ariel waving a placcard that stated “basta frontliner, libre” from the backseat of a cab.

According to him, he reminds Kuya Ariel after noticing that he doesn’t press the taxi’s meter. Then Kuya Ariel lifted a placard saying frontliners are free of fare. Johnasse said at first, they thought Kuya Ariel was going to turn them away because they were health workers, citing the discrimination they faced.

“Akala ko po, pabababain kami, kasi diba ’yung stigma po ngayon na ’pag frontliner, may mga nababalitaan tayo na pinapaalis doon sa lugar nila, o kaya may diskriminasyon po. So natakot po kami,” he said.

According to Johnasse, the driver told him he wasn’t charging them as a way of “paying it forward.” Kate Napoles, another nurse, revealed she had also been a Kuya Ariel passenger.

She stated she was on the verge of tears that day due to weariness and despondency, but the taxi driver’s gesture cheered her up. Kuya Ariel was there, she added, when no one else had the fortitude to let them ride.

“Naiiyak na po ako talaga noong time na ’yun kasi sobrang down na kami, ’yung mga health workers wala po kaming masakyan papasok. Nandiyan po siya,” she said.

Another passenger, internal medical doctor Celito Tamban, stated he couldn’t forget what Kuya Ariel told him before getting off the taxi. He told Tamban that frontliners are going through is not easy, “tandaan niyo na may mga taong naniniwala at sumusuporta sa inyo.”

Kuya Ariel, whose identity is still unknown, received communications from the frontliners. Kuya Ariel’s kindness to the medical frontlines has made them appreciative and proud.
