Tacloban Cop Earned Praise After Preventing a Woman Killing Herself

The Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Guillermo Eleazar has praised the cop of Tacloban after preventing a woman from killing herself.

Eleazar hailed a Tacloban City police officer who saved a woman from committing to end her life in the nick of time. Police Corporal Rico Estrella of Tacloban City Police Station 2 was named as the life-saving officer.

According to the story, Estrella ran to the 3rd floor of a local bus terminal recently after a huge group of individuals milling outside piqued his interest. Their gazes were drawn to a woman who stood aimlessly at the cliff, seemingly ready to leap.

The cop arrived on time on the third floor and apprehended the woman. The victim was taken to the Women and Children Protection Desk of the local police department for immediate attention and intervention.

According to Gen. Eleazar, a medical examination revealed that the woman was suffering from postpartum depression and was facing financial difficulties as a result of the pandemic. The head cop directed the local cops to aid the woman and her family in any way they could.

“Saludo ako kay Police Corporal Estrella dahil isang buhay ang naisalba nang dahil sa kanyang agarang pagresponde sa insidente. Gagawa din tayo ng paraan na matulungan sila upang makapag-paabot ng tulong para naman mabawasan ang mga pagsubok na kinahaharap nila,” he said.

Eleazar added that PNP will find a method to assist them in reaching out to lessen the issues they experience. Following the incident, members of the local police station agreed to pay for the couple’s wedding and the baptism of their children out of their own pockets.
