POEA Warns Public Using Dating Apps Where Illegal Recruiters Find Victims
The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has warned the public against illegal recruiters allegedly using online dating apps to find victims.
The POEA has issued a statement cautioning users to exercise caution when using online dating apps, particularly those who are very active on them. This comes after numerous users complained to the agency that illicit recruiters were offering them jobs in other countries.

According to the POEA, they have received information that unlawful recruiters are utilizing online dating applications to offer migration and jobs in the United States and Canada. POEA warns that scammers, like those found in earlier apps, will steal their victim’s heart until they can give him migration or work overseas.
They will even send bogus contracts and company profiles to appear credible. The scammer will ask the victim for money as reimbursement for the “service” he gave, while still convincing the victim that he is doing it out of love.
Once the victim has been persuaded, the scammer will demand payment for document processing. The alleged visa paperwork and airport clearances will not be released if they do not pay.
POEA warns job searchers in the Philippines and elsewhere not to respond to employment offers on dating apps and websites, and especially not to send money to these online portals in return for work in other countries. If a fraudster is discovered on dating apps, the POEA advises the public to report them.
