This is what Laurenti explained about Pinoy Big Brother
Star Magic head Laurenti Dyogi, who is also the original business head of Pinoy Big Brother, has this reaction to the tag that the reality show has become a talent search.
PBB is once again opening its doors for the 10th season and fans have been expressing excitement about it. However, there were also those who are saying that the Kapamilya program is a talent search now.
For the past years, several housemates have made it big in the entertainment industry like Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson, James Reid, Robi Domingo, Beauty Gonzalez, Ejay Falcon, Melai Cantiveros, Barbie Imperial, Heaven Peralejo, Maris Racal, and Joshua Garcia.
The program format of PBB was based on the show produced by Dutch producer Banijay (formerly Endemol) in which several individuals are housed together and clashes would happen because of their different personalities. Based on the article in PEP, Laurenti Dyogi stressed that Pinoy Big Brother is not a mere talent search.
“Ang daming nagsasabi na talent search daw po ang PBB. Marami po talagang sumisikat kasi maraming sumusubaybay sa mga housemates, but it’s not a talent search alone,” he said.
The ABS-CBN executive also said that the show is a representation of different Filipinos and different dreamers. Having a housemate who will eventually become a star is a bonus, he said.
“Swerte kami na maraming sumisikat pero mas marami rin naman ang nabago ang buhay kahit hindi pumasok sa larangan ng show business,” he added.
Laurenti also stresses that there are also former housemates who became successful in different fields. Pinoy Big Brother host Bianca Gonzalez, who also became a housemate during the Celebrity Edition 1, said the casting committee’s main goal is not to find an “artista”. “Ang top priority talaga is trying to get iyong good mix,” she said.
