Scammer Arrested Again After Involved in ‘Rent-Sangla’ Modus in Muntinlupa
Police authorities arrested a “rent-sangla” scammer after being involved in the same modus when previously arrested in Muntinlupa.
According to an ABS-CBN News report, a lady accused of being a fraudster has been remanded in custody for allegedly selling or renting a false residence in Muntinlupa City. According to the Southern Police District, Muntinlupa City Police detained 40-year-old Catherine Gumarang in an entrapment operation inside a mall in the city on Monday. A security guard claimed the guy offered him money to buy the house he claimed to own.

The victim had already paid P50,000, but he later realized that the housing offer had been sold to another individual. When the victim met with the suspect to hand over P50,000, the entrapment operation was carried out.
Gumarang was one of five women arrested by Sta. Mesa, Manila police in March 2018 for “rent-mortgage” or “mortgage-leftover” modus operandi. When the survivors had already paid, they offered the victims the opportunity to invest in relocation housing units in Taguig in exchange for a share of the proceeds.
They were furious, however, when they discovered that the unit had also been mortgaged to someone else. Gumarang is now being held by the Muntinlupa Police Department on robbery and extortion accusations. Police warned those looking to buy or rent a home to double-check the legitimacy of the transaction, as well as the agent and identified owner.
