Several areas in the Philippines noted an increase in the COVID-19 cases in their cities, municipalities, and provinces. Undeniably, the presence of the Delta variant in the country now is requiring an intensified fight against the pandemic.
The Delta variant is of concern due to its higher transmissibility rate compared with other variants. It was even considered as a factor in the spike of the COVID-19 cases in India that led to the collapse of their healthcare system.
Aside from India, several other countries considered the Delta variant as a factor in the increase in coronavirus cases in their nations. The Philippines is one of the countries that recorded cases of the said variant.
According to the Department of Health (DOH), there are already local transmissions of the disease and a community transmission might be happening already in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Calabarzon. The Health Department stressed that cases in NCR no longer have links to each other.
