Anti-Narcotic Cop Accused of Extortion from Drug Suspects in Zamboanga Arrested
The Philippine National Police (PNP) men have arrested an anti-narcotic cop who was accused of extortion against drug suspects in Zamboanga City.
The PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (PNP IMEG) apprehended a police officer in an entrapment operation for a robbery extortion case. PCpl. Alexis Garcia was detained, according to PNP IMEG Director BGen. Flynne Dongbo.

The suspect PCpl Garcia is the assigned investigator of the Station Drug Enforcement Team, PS-11 of the Zamboanga City Police Office, according to BGen. Dongbo’s report to PNP Chief Gen. Guillermo Eleazar. Many people have apparently complained to the officer about extortion.
According to the allegation, Garcia extorted money from the families of the suspects in charge of the cases in exchange for the case being dismissed and them not being sent to the Zamboanga City Jail. As a result, he was the target of an entrapment operation by the PNP-IMEG.
Personnel from IMEG, CIDG-9, Regional Mobile Force, PRO-9, and the Zamboanga City Police Office spearheaded the operation at a part of Mayor Climaco Avenue in Zamboanga City. Garcia was arrested after a complaint was filed alleging that he sought P120,000.00 from a family of a suspect who had been arrested for illegal drugs.
While the criminal and administrative case is being developed, the suspect is being held by CIDG Regional Field Unit 9. BGen Dongbo continues to urge the people to report corrupt police officers to the PNP or their IMEG hotlines.
