Jail Visitor Attempted to Smuggle Illegal Drugs Hidden Inside Rice Arrested

Police authorities arrested a jail visitor after he attempted to smuggle illegal drugs by hiding them inside the rice for his friend inmate.

Inside Silang Custodial Center, a man was merely visiting an inmate acquaintance when he was arrested. They are now in the same cell after the 18-year-old male was apprehended while attempting to smuggle illegal substances by concealing them in food given to a friend.

The suspect has been identified as Shaira Mark Jason Quiban alias Bogbog, according to the report of PSMSgt Robert Dimailig of the Silang Police Station. The arrested defendant was charged with violating Section 11 Article II of RA 9165.

According to the report, Quiban paid a visit to his friend Joel Allegra, who was being held at the Silang Custodial Center at Silang Municipal Police Station PCP 1 in Bulihan, Silang, Cavite. Quiban brought a pack of rice for Allegra.

A Duty Custodial Facility Officer scrutinized the food he was carrying as part of a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) before entering. The inspector discovered two sachets of suspected illegal narcotics known as “shabu” intermingled with the bagged rice after a thorough investigation.

Quiban was apprehended by the police shortly after the finding. Based on the police report, on July 31, 2021, Quiban’s companion Allegra was arrested for breaching Sections 5 and 11 of RA 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drug Act of 2002.
