Police Intercepted Parcels with Drugs After Being Delivered Inside Isolation Center

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) personnel intercepted some illegal drugs to be smuggled into an isolation center in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig.

PCG claimed in a report that they intercepted two delivery riders at different times. The PCG personnel allegedly caught delivery riders delivering a package for two returning overseas Filipinos (ROF) who were incarcerated in a motel.

Around 4 p.m., the first rider arrived with a box for one of the quarantine OFWs, according to the PCG Task Group Bantay Bayanihan’s spot report. The shipment was reported to include clothes and a cellphone, according to the sender’s online declaration.

When PCG and Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ) officers analyzed the smartphone cover, they discovered plastic containing only probable methamphetamine on the back. The rider and the parcel were arrested and transported to the Taguig Police Station for further investigation.

The rider was found to be innocent and had nothing to do with the contents of the package after a comprehensive inquiry. Another rider came at the isolated motel an hour and a half later, introducing himself as a cousin of another ROF who would deliver the garments he was bringing.

However, when the plastic was examined, they discovered only a white crystalline substance that was considered to be an illegal drug. The cyclist was escorted to the police station as well.

The two ROFs that were meant to received shipments containing illegal drugs have also been approached by police. For breaking Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, police are planning to file a case against two quarantined ROFs and a delivery rider relative of one of them.

Rear Admiral Rolando Lizor Punzalan, Commander of the PCG Task Force Bayanihan ROF, urged everyone to observe the law and promote the health of their loved ones, especially the relatives of the isolated ROFs. life.

“Huwag na nating ilagay sa balag ng alanganin ang kapakanan ng mga OFW at iba pang ROF sa mga quarantine facilities. Maliban sa nakokompromiso nito ang kalusugan at kaligtasan ng ating mga kaanak, maaari pa tayong makasuhan dahil sa paglabag sa batas. Kailangan namin ang inyong kooperasyon,” said Punzalan.
