“Wag Mag Audit”: Duterte Says COA Should Let Him Finish His Job First

Duterte Tells COA “Wag Mag Audit” Until Admin’s Job Is Done

DUTERTE ON COA ISSUE – President Rodrigo Duterte told the Commission on Audit “Wag mag audit hanggang hindi pa natatapos ang trabaho ko”.

Recently, COA flagged P67 Billion worth of discrepancies from the Department of Health’s (DOH’s) COVID-19 funds. Following this, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III quickly denied there was any corruption involved.

Furthermore, COA clarified that the report merely stated there were discrepancies with the funds and stressed that they never said there was corruption within the DOH. Additionally, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire emphasized that the DOH simply needed to follow-up its documents.

Meanwhile, President Duterte himself chimed in on the issue and said that he had previously encountered this when he was the Mayor of Davao. He emphasized that “deficiencies” simply meant that paperwork has yet to be completed.

Additionally, he cited that it would be impossible to steal over P67.3 billion. With this, he stated that the COA should wait for the government to finish its job before they audit.

According to an article from ABS-CBN, Duterte said:

Ang problema kasi diyan, I said, the paper that they are holding, or papers that they are, in their custody, are really insufficient and deficient. ‘Wag ka munang mag-audit hanggang hindi pa natapos ang trabaho ko. ‘Yun lang naman sana ang hinihingi natin. Do not conduct audit on our work na ongoing pa kasi ‘yan dino-document pa ‘yan…
