What is the real attitude of Coco Martin?
Award-winning director Brillante Mendoza made revelations about the attitude of Ang Probinsyano actor Coco Martin, then and now.
Before Coco became a matinee idol, he was tagged as the Prince of Philippine Independent Films and his mentor is Direk Brillante. The last movie that they did was Captive in 2012. Years passed and they are set to do a project together and the tentative title of this movie is Pola (Red Earth), based on the article in PEP.
In an interview, Direk Brillante was asked about the working habits of Coco Martin, then and now. The filmmaker said that Coco is a good person and he knows his place in the production.
“At saka alam niya talaga yung ano niya, nung ginagawa namin ito, sabi niya sa akin, ‘O, ikaw ang direktor ko ngayon, ha?’ Sabi niya, ‘Artista lang ako kasi,’ ganyan-ganyan. ‘Sige,’ sabi ko sa kanya,” the director said.
He added that the attitude of the Kapamilya star is still the same until now, he is still the one making coffee and buying liquor for them. Direk Brillante also clarified that the falling-out rumor with Coco is not true.
He stressed that they are both for each other’s success in the field that they have chosen. “Sa mga choices namin, kahit paano may nangyari and we are both happy sa development na yun,” he said.
The director also shared that over the years, he is just behind Coco Martin, giving him and advice. Direk Brillante said that amid the time when the actor is being involved with controversies, he would seek advice and they would talk. The “kumustahan” between them is also constant.
For the filmmaker, his friendship with the Kapamilya star is now more mature unlike years ago. “Siguro yung bonding ba, yung friendship. Meron kaming friendship noon pero hindi malalim. I mean, hindi siya ganun kalalim,” he said.
Direk Brillante added that because of their age now when they talk about life now is not the same as before.
