Immigration Intercepted 6 Human Trafficking Victims in NAIA Going to UAE

The Bureau of Immigration (BI) personnel have intercepted six (6) human trafficking victims in NAIA supposedly boarding going to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Six potential victims were apprehended with fraudulent visas at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport while on their way to the United Arab Emirates. Six of the passengers were women, according to the report provided to Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente of the BI Intelligence Division.

They were apprehended by BI Travel Control and Enforcement Unit (TCEU) officials at NAIA Terminal 3’s departure area after attempting to board an Emirates flight to Dubai, according to the report. The six passengers who were denied boarding were discovered to have phony UAE visas affixed to their passports, according to reports.

According to Morente, the victims of human trafficking claimed to be “balik-manggagawa,” or overseas Filipino workers returning to their previous employers. They claimed to have been hired directly as domestic household workers, but they were unable to provide any evidence to support their claim.

The six women were handed over to the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking (IACAT) for further investigation and prosecution of their recruiters. Meanwhile, earlier this month, BI agents apprehended a human trafficking victim who was using a forged birth certificate.

After a female overseas OFW was arrested for attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to Saudi Arabia, the plan was exposed. During questioning, the trafficking victim admitted to using the name of a friend from her birthplace in Mindanao to fabricate her travel documents.

Her birth certificate was supposedly provided to her by a friend in order for her to apply for a passport that would allow her to work in Saudi Arabia as a household service worker (HSW). Despite the fact that she acknowledged to being just 20 years old when interviewed, the victim’s passport supposedly showed that she was already 24 years old.
