Gov’t Promising “Ayuda” Without Knowing Where To Get Funds – Bayan

Gov’t Fooling Public By Promising “Ayuda” In Preparation For ECQ

GOV’T PROMISING AYUDA – Recently, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the government would give cash aid to residents affected by the new enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

However, Roque emphasized that those who would be in dire need of cash should get a loan first in preparation for the ECQ. Furthermore, he cited that the government would give cash aid, but, they still don’t know where to get the funds.

Following this, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Secretary-General Renato Reyes said the government is simply “fooling the public”.

According to Reyes, Roque saying that Ayuda would be given without being sure where the funds would come from meant the government is not sure it has something to give. “This is fooling the public. Once again people are put under a new lockdown without any clear aid“, he added.

Additionally, Reyes stressed that President Rodrigo Duterte’s administration had been focusing on funding projects not related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on an article from Inquirer, Reyes said:

Let’s not forget why there’s a problem in aid and pandemic response now: Bayanihan 3 was not certified by Duterte as urgent. Other expenses were put first like the NTF-ELCAC, Build-Build-Build, and the dolomite beach

Aside from this, Reyes said that funds allocated for Bayanihan 2 were not all spent. Meanwhile, with the passing of the Bayanihan to Arise as One, House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco said it would provide a much-needed stimulus package for the new lockdown amounting to P3 billion.

But, over P63 billion allocated under Bayanihan 2 still remained unspent. This led to Reyes calling out the admin and saying that they had done a huge sin against the people.
