3rd Year College Student Dismayed At PH Education System After Given “Elementary Activity”

ELEMENTARY ACTIVITIES IN COLLEGE – A 3rd year college student was dismayed after receiving an activity fit for elementary.

In the Philippines, taking minor subjects to fill up college credits is nothing new. However, when the activities start becoming literal activities for children, there might be a problem.

On the social media platform, Reddit, a user by the name of FusianFury posted an activity one of his subjects gave. It was a “REFLECTION AND ACTION” activity titled “My Family. My Identity”.

Here, the students needed to give an individual reading and reflection about “Why we need family history now more than ever” and answer the question “What do I like about my family?”.

What’s worse is after this, they are required to DRAW A FAMILY TREE. It even has instructions saying the roots should be your grandparents, the trunks your parents, the branches other relatives, and fruits being the siblings.

Obviously, these leaves several issues. According to some netizens, this type of activity, is not only “elementary” and unfit for college, but also insensitive especially to those who have a toxic family or those who come from broken families or don’t have family at all.

r/Philippines - Our education system is a joke. 3rd year na ako, pang elementary parin ginagawa namin sa aming minor subjects.
