What you don’t know about the MMFF 1994 scandal
Veteran entertainment columnist Lolit Solis, who is also a talent manager, made revelations about the MMFF 1994 scandal.
Lolit admitted that she was the person behind the scandal that happened during the Metro Manila Film Festival awards night in 1994.
During a recent interview by comedian-talent manager Ogie Diaz, Manay Lolit shared that at that time, the career of actor Gabby Concepcion, who was being managed by her, was taking a “slide down”.
The veteran columnist said that she thought Richard Gomez will win Best Actor that year. “That time, akala ko talaga ang magiging winner si Richard Gomez. Siyempre karibal ni Gabby eh. Di ko alam, si Edu Manzano pala ang mananalo dapat. Sabi ko, ‘ay hindi pwedeng Manalo si Richard, lalong babagsak si Gabby,” Lolit Solis revealed.
At that time, Gabby got married to Jenny Syquia that affected his career. As a talent manager, Manay Lolit thought that what she did would save the actor’s career.
She also revealed that she did the same scam for Ruffa Gutierrez to be called the Best Actress because she was the one who would announce that Gabby was the Best Actor.
Recalling this chapter of her life, Lolit Solis can laugh about it now. However, back then, she went through a devastating moment as she thought that it would end her career.
Ogie Diaz mentioned that the veteran columnist thought of ending her life. She said that she did not know that she already had sleeping pills overdose because she wanted to forget everything and just sleep.
Lolit Solis also said that the MMFF 1994 scandal became more difficult because the supposed showbiz issue was blended with politics.
