Diarrhea Outbreak Declared in Town of Santo Tomas in Davao del Norte
The town of Santo Tomas in Davao del Norte has declared a diarrhea outbreak in the city affecting about 171 residents.
On Saturday (July 17, 2021), the local government unit of Santo Tomas in Davao del Norte declared a diarrhea outbreak after 171 individuals suffered from stomach ache, diarrhea and vomiting.
Mayor Ernesto Evangelista said that the residents started to suffer from diarrhea on Friday (July 16). Two individuals have passed away and 47 others have been hospitalized due to the incident.
Santo Tomas Municipal Information Officer Mart Sambalud said that they have already deployed personnel from the Municipal Health Office (MHO). The patients immediately received medicines for diarrhea.
According to the health authorities, the residents might have obtained the illness through water contamination. The local government of the city has conducted household chlorination and heightened the community information and education campaigns regarding environmental sanitation.
The patients were currently staying at the covered court of the barangay. The government personnel gave them plastic beds, foods and other medical support.
