FDA Warns Public Against Buying, Eating Bongbong’s Piaya

Bongbong’s Piaya is included in the recent advisory from FDA

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned the public against buying and eating the famous “pasalubong” Bongbong’s Piaya.

Piaya is a Negros Occidental delicacy and its popularity has reached the different parts of the country as well as abroad. Indeed, it is well-loved by many especially those who love sweet delicacies.

However, the unleavened bread filled with muscovado and now with other flavors, has recently received a warning from the agency.

Based on the article in spot.ph, Bongbong’s Piaya is not FDA-registered. It means that the product has failed to undergo the evaluation process of the agency.

The public is also being warned against buying and consuming Bongbong’s polvoron, Sloan’s Food Products barquillos short, Mayo Bay Tablea, and Ruffa’s banana chips.

Since these unregistered food products have not gone through evaluation process of the FDA, the agency cannot assure its quality and safety,” the statement from the agency stated.

To recall, in 2020, this also happened to the popular Reno Liver Spread when FDA ordered to pull out the products in the market because it was not registered. This issue was resolved as the company apologized and applied for registration.
