8 PH Hospitals Under Probe for Allegedly Selling Overpriced Remdesivir

8 PH Hospitals Allegedly Selling Overpriced Remdesivir Placed in Hot Water by NBI

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) call on eight (8) hospitals in the Philippines that were reportedly selling overpriced Remdesivir.

The NBI is expected to call eight hospitals to explain the alleged sale of “overpriced” remdesivir, a medicine now used on COVID-19 patients. This came after numerous COVID-19 patients, including “Maria” and her husband, expressed their dissatisfaction.

When they got COVID-19, according to “Maria,” they had problems getting money instead of concentrating about recovery. According to reports, the hospital they visited required an upfront payment of P50,000 to P60,000 for admittance.

This is in addition to the daily hospital fee of P10,000 to P15,000. The price of the remdesivir, which “Maria” reported cost P14,760 per vial, startled her.

When her mother was admitted to another hospital, “Rose” supposedly went through the same scenario. They were required to make a P100,000 advance payment before beginning treatment, with the remdesivir charge being P15,000.

After her mother was brought to the hospital for ten days, “Rose” incurred a charge of P1.2 million. His mother died later as well. “Rose” has been paying the bill till now.

According to the NBI, the Department of Health and the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation both became aware of the hospital’s invoicing and examined it. However, the NBI’s inquiry will include other allegations of exploitation.

According to the hospital where Rose’s mother was admitted, they will hold off on making a statement until the patient files an official complaint. COVID-19 patients are becoming increasingly miserable as a result of the exorbitant cost of the treatment, and instead of recovering, they will have to worry about the astronomical hospital bill.
