Police Officer Along 2 Others Smuggling Narra in Isabela Arrested in a Checkpoint

Authorities arrested a police officer and two other accomplice after they were caught smuggling narra when they were flagged down at control checkpoint in Isabela.

A police officer and two of his coworkers were arrested at a checkpoint in National Highway Barangay District 3, San Manuel, after being found transporting illegally cut narra wood.

Police Smuggling Narra

A police officer and two of his subordinates were arrested at a checkpoint along National Highway Barangay District 3 in San Manuel, this province, for illegally cutting narra wood. PSSgt. Clifford Tega, of Purok 3, Bulanao, Tabuk City, Kalinga, was identified as the officer. He is currently deployed to the 1st PMFC in Pampanga.

The two other suspects are Domingo Fernandez, 44, a driver and resident of Barangay Kalsem, Aguilar, Pangasinan, and Vic Natar, 46, a resident of Barangay Buaya, Balbalan, Tabuk City, Kalinga, according to PMaj Jose Torrijos, chief of the San Manuel Police Station. They were conducting a random checkpoint in their area when they caught the suspects, according to Torrijos.

They stopped the suspects’ van and examined the contents of the vehicle. Narra planks that were still covered in bags of chaff their cargo were discovered after a thorough inspection.

When asked if their package had any documents, the suspects were unable to produce any. PSSgt. Tega apparently attempted to bribe those who apprehended him, but did not succeed.

Narra boards amounting to 600 board feet, as well as bribery money and a vehicle, including two firearms and ammo provided to PSSgt. Tega, were recovered. PSSgt Tega is not the only person to be accused of smuggling illegally harvested timber from the province of Kalinga and transporting it to Metro Manila.

PVol’s severe directive in the illegal logging campaign prompted such action. Provincial Director of the Isabela Police Provincial Office, or IPPO, James Melad Cipriano. The three suspects, who are presently in police custody, have been charged with bribery and violating PD 705.
