One of the arrested stated that her documents were fabricated and admitted that she did not undergo to a swab test, according to NBI International Airport Investigation Division chief Ruel Dugayon. Dugayon added that the National Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into who is behind the forged paperwork.

“Umamin naman na hindi siya dumaan sa swab test. Iniimbestigahan namin kasi gusto naming mahuli kung sino ‘yong nagbigay ng pekeng dokumento sa kaniya,” Dugayon said.

Meanwhile, because she was under the age of 18, the other OFW used a passport with her older sibling’s name on it. According to Dugayon, the detained exploited her sibling’s birth document to meet the age requirement for passengers traveling to Saudi Arabia.

“Ang ginamit niyang birth certificate [to secure the passport] ay birth certificate ng kapatid niya para ma-qualify siya kasi ang edad ng pasaherong papuntang Saudi Arabia ay 23 years old. Underage pa siya,” Dugayon said.

The two arrested OFWs are now in the custody of NBI-IAID. The OFWs will be charged with falsification of documents and violating the Philippine Passport Act.
