Bigger Taal Eruption A Possibility Says Phivolcs After Volcanic Activity

Bigger Taal Eruption A Possibility, Residents Urged To Stay Vigilant

BIGGER TAAL ERUPTION – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology warned that Taal Volcano still has the possibility of a stronger eruption.

Recently, Taal was captured as it spewed steam and rock fragments hundreds of feet into the sky. As such, the alert level for the surrounding area was raised prompting locals to evacuate.

Meanwhile, Taal continues to spew smoke caused by gas and water vapor moving towards the crater. Furthermore, during a televised briefing, Phivolcs chief Renato Solidum said:

Sana hindi matuloy ang mas malalakas pang pagsabog, pero and’yan pa rin ‘yan banta na pinapakita ng Taal kasi mas marami pa gas ang nilalabas

Yesterday, Taal went viral on social media after it was seen belching a “short-lived dark phreatomagmatic plume”. The substances that erupted from the volcano rose over a kilometer into the air.

Following this, 4 short phreatomagmatic bursts produced 200-meter-high plumes above the main crater of the volcano.

According to the seismology agency, the towns of Agoncillo and Laurel in Batangas province, which are located on the lake surrounding the Taal volcano, are in danger of eruption and volcanic tsunami.

The national disaster agency’s local agents, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, have convened an emergency meeting with government officials and emergency services. Nearly 15,000 individuals, he said, lived in the most susceptible locations.
