Medical Teacher Nabbed Over Alleged “Grade-for-Sale” Scheme in Dagupan City

NBI Arrest Medical Teacher for His Alleged “Grade-for-Sale” Scheme

Operatives of National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) arrested a medical teacher after his alleged “grade-for-sale” scheme was reported.

An entrapment operation conducted by the NBI-Dagupan District Office resulted to the arrest of a medical practitioner who also teaches in a medical school in San Carlos City for allegedly selling grades to failing students in exchange of large amount of money.

The culprit was identified as Dr. Rhoderick Asuncion, 53, according to the newspaper. Asuncion was apprehended after receiving the P25,000 marked money in his clinic in Barangay Lucao, Dagupan City, which was a mix of genuine and counterfeit money.

On June 20, an Indian national student filed a complaint, prompting the operation. The female Indian student went to the NBI-office DADO’s and requested for help, according to Agent Mark Caceres.

According to the complaint, Asuncion allegedly failed 90 medical students in their medical subjects. She went on to say that their professor told them they needed to pay P35,000 in order to pass their subject.

Asuncion allegedly extorted P35,000 from each student, the majority of whom were foreign nationals, according to Caceres. Following up on the lead, it was discovered that several pupils had already paid Asuncion in cash.

The NBI-DADO prepared for the operation after hearing the student’s complaints. As a joke, the complainant asked Asuncion if she might pay P25,000 up front, which he agreed to.

Further investigation into Asuncion’s profile reveals that similar complaints were made against him in 2019, with foreign students filing identical complaints with the NBI. They were unable to carry out the procedure, though.

Asuncion has been teaching for five years, according to Caceres. Asuncion was charged with Robbery Extortion by the NBI. As more students rise and file their concerns, the total number of pupils will rise.

Caceres claims that if his guilt is established, his license will be revoked. Asuncion disputed the allegations against him in a separate interview.
