Pastor, Village Kagawad Possessing Illegal Firearms, Explosives Arrested in Bohol

Authorities arrested a pastor and village kagawad in Bohol for possessing illegal firearms and explosives and allegedly linked to rebels.

A pastor and a barangay councilor were detained in the province of Bohol by members of Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 (CIDG), with the help of Regional Mobile Force Battalion 7, the Bohol Police Provincial Office (CPPO), and the Philippine Army’s 42nd Infantry Battalion.

Carmilo Tabada, 51, a member and accused leader of a criminal organization also involved in gun trafficking in Bohol, was detained for the first time around 1:40 a.m. on June 25, 2002. According to the group of eight, Tabada is known as “Eloy, Asyed, and Emil,” councilors of barangay Poblacion in Trinidad town.

Judge Azucena Macalolot-Credo of the Regional Trial Court (RTC) in Talibon issued a search warrant on June 21, 2021, which led to Tabada’s arrest. A.45 caliber pistol and ammo, a 9mm machine pistol and ammunition, a grenade, and subversive materials were seized from Tabada’s home.

Tabada is claimed to be the leader of the Tabada crime group, which is involved in gunrunning, and he is on the CIDG Bohol’s target list of people. Apart from being a barangay councilor, Tabada is believed to be a strong supporter of the Communist Party of the Philippines’ Bohol Party Committee (CPP).

Nathaniel Vallente, 52, the pastor of the United Church of Christ in the Philippines (UCCP), was arrested in a raid in Purok 5, Barangay San Jose, Mabini town, around 2:30 a.m. Vallente was still detained after Executive Judge Leo Moises Lison of RTC Branch 3 in Tagbilaran City issued a search order.

He was found in possession of four.45 caliber handguns, four magazines, a hand grenade, and assorted ammo, as well as a subversive paper belonging to the insurgent New People’s Army. Vallente is said to be a part of the Tabada crime group, according to the CIDG 7 background investigation.

He was also designated as a CIDG Bohol target individual in Oplan Sumbohan, where he punished criminal gang leaders and members and became a recruiter for the NPA.
