Recycling Plant Caught Using Hazardous Chemicals in Bulacan Shutdown
Operatives from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) shutdown a recycling plant in Bulacan after they discovered hazardous chemicals being used.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has shut down the aluminum chips recycling business in Norzagaray, Bulacan, for allegedly using dangerous chemicals in its operations. According to the NBI, the plant employs Sodium Silicofluoride, a poisonous chemical compound used for fluoridation, pesticide, and rodenticide that is harmful to the health of those who live nearby.

According to NBI Officer-in-Charge Director Eric B. Distor, who detained owner Analiza Omblero and employees Laberto Dela Cruz and Ariel Helvero during the operation, the recycling plant lacks a functional sewage system for the proper disposal of their poisonous waste product.
He added that NBI agents discovered two juveniles working at the company and turned them over to the Provincial Social Welfare and Development of Bulacan in Malolos City. During the operation, 100 pieces of ingot (aluminum blocks), five oil drums, and sacks of dangerous chemicals known as Sodium Silicoflouride were seized.
A large number of Berota (aluminum trash) sacks, a makeshift cauldron used as a burner incinerator, tons of DROSS (non-liquefied aluminum waste), and a long wing-van truck were also seized.
According to an intelligence report, the company was “engaged in the recycling of aluminum wastes without the necessary environmental compliance certificate from the Environment Management Bureau (EMB) and has no valid permit to operate from the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) and from the Bulacan Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO).”
