Leyte Town Councilor Seized with P42K Illegal Drugs During Buy-Bust Ops

Authorities arrested a town councilor after caught possessing illegal drugs worth P42,000 during the buy-bust operation conducted in Leyte.

During a buy-bust operation at his residence in Tacloban City, a town councilor from San Miguel, Leyte, was caught with roughly P42,000 worth of suspected shabu. Almar Balais, 67, a member of the Sangguniang Bayan of San Miguel, was the arrested, according to the report.

Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Eastern Visayas, along with policemen and troops from the Philippine Army’s 802nd Brigade, conducted the operation at Balais’ home in V&G Subdivision, Barangay 109-A, according to reports from the Leyte provincial police and the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA)-Eastern Visayas.

Balais was apprehended after selling a sachet of shabu to an undercover officer and being found in possession of two medium-sized packs containing the illegal substance, according to police. According to the PDEA, the councilor was found with 6.1778 grams of suspected shabu.

The P1,000 bill and phony P7,000 currency used in the sting, as well as an Isuzu mu-X sports utility vehicle, were all seized from Balais. Balais is being kept at a PDEA detention center while charges for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Law are being prepared.
