Sara Duterte Warns Robredo Following Statement On COVID-19 Cases In Davao
SARA DUTERTE – Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte warns Vice President Leni Robredo following her statements regarding the city.
Recently, the Vice President noted an “alarming” number of COVID-19 cases in Davao City. Currently, Davao City has surpassed Metro Manila’s most populated urban area in the average number of new COVID-19 infections.
However, the Department of Health (DOH) emphasized that Davao shouldn’t be considered a “new epicenter” of COVID-19 cases. “Using the term ‘epicenter’ detracts from other surrounding areas which may be equally or more affected by COVID-19”, said Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire.
Meanwhile, on her weekly show, the Vice President said that Davao City could learn from Cebu City when it comes to managing COVID-19. During her show, she said:
Makakatulong na tingnan kung anong ginawa sa Cebu. Kasi kung titingnan mo ngayon na nagsaspike na, sa Cebu parang controlled, ‘di ba? Parang controlled and marami ang ginawa—ang partnership doon, hindi lang talaga LGU (local government unit) pero very active doon ang medical community
Furthermore, she cited that when she visited Cebu, there was good coordination between her camp and the medical community. “So tingin ko ang mga lessons sa Cebu, ganoon din. Makakapulot ng aral ang Davao“, Robredo added.
But, Sara Duterte took offense to Robredo’s statements. According to her, the Vice President shouldn’t attack the medical community in Davao as being “inactive”. Moreover, Duterte said Robredo should open her eyes to the surge of COVID-19 cases worldwide.
Additionally, Duterte noted that Robredo should pick a proper time to attack her performance as an LCE amid the pandemic if she thinks about running for President.
“This has been the hallmark of her term as VP, where she puts forth comments on matters and affairs she lacks understanding and knowledge on and does not offer anything helpful to solve a problem“, Duterte said.
