Here’s what Shay Mitchell said about her “Trese” stint
Hollywood actress Shay Mitchell said this about the Filipino culture after she lent her voice for Alexandra Trese for the English version of the anime series.
Shay is known for being part of the drama series Pretty Little Liars, psychological thriller You, and the comedy series Dollface. Despite being a popular actress, she is still attached to her roots and she is thankful to have the chance to be part of the Pinoy horror anime series.
Based on the article in Inquirer, Shay expressed excitement when this project was presented to her. “This was one of those projects that I went, ‘Huh? Yeah, of course this makes sense,’” the actress shared.
Aside from the fact that she loves the story, she was also ecstatic knowing that the people behind this project were actually Filipinos.
“I was familiar with some of the stories [related to the folkloric creatures in it], but I have developed a much more extensive understanding of the characters and creatures post-‘Trese,’” Shay revealed.
This project also made her feel closer to the heritage that her Filipina mother grew up with. “It made me feel closer to my mom’s heritage, like I am more a part of the community,” she said.
When asked about the possibility for this Pinoy anime series to have its season two, Shay said that she would love to know about it also.
Other stars with Filipino blood in their veins who lent their voice for Trese on Netflix were Nicole Scherzinger (as Miranda, Alex’s mother), Darren Criss (Marco, nephew of Captain Guerrero), Lou Diamond Phillips (Mayor Sancho Santamaria), Rodney To (Raul, Aswang market guard), Reuben Uy (Colonel Hidalgo), DeeDee Magno Hall (Emissary) and Dante Basco (Bagyon Kulimlim).
