Town Mayor Confirms Surveys For Sara Duterte Seeking Signature Backing Her Campaign
SURVEYS FOR SARA DUTERTE – According to a town mayor, volunteers from Bulacan are gathering millions of signatures backing Sara Duterte’s run for precedency.
Much like her father, current President Rodrigo Duterte, Sara initially said that she does not want to run for higher office. However, with the support of political parties, businessmen, and of course, the public, the sentiment may change.
As such, Bulacan Mayor Ambrosio Cruz Jr. said volunteers are gathering millions of signatures to urge Sara to run for president in the 2022 elections. During an interview with ABS-CBN, the town mayor said:
I think they’re really testing the pulse of the nation because I was told that the required signature is about 17 million. I think we have 15 and they are asking for more. This group of volunteers is actually going around Bulacan and asking the barangay captains if they can help… It’s purely out of the spirit of volunteerism
Furthermore, the emphasized that there was no letter coming from local authorities when it came to the surveys. He explained that was “no pressure” coming from barangay captains. Instead, he believed that it was simply due to the volunteers’ initiatives.
“The forms presented to your good office is a sign that you are willing to support Ms. Sarah Duterte on the upcoming Presidential Election“, one of the copies of the signature read.
Meanwhile, former Bayan Muna party-list representative Teddy Casiño slammed similar activities in Baliwag, Bulacan, as it was a form of early campaigning.
Election laws explicitly prohibit barangays officials from engaging in partisan political activity…
Not to say if the candidacy of Sara Duterte if that were true is a blatant violation of the constitutional prohibition on political dynasties
